What is One.com?
One.com was founded by Jacob Jensen in 2002 and it is based in Denmark.
Within the duration of its inception, One.com has managed to gain 1,500,000 customers spanning 149 countries with almost the same number of employees.
3 million people. Who associate with one(.com) company. That’s an incredible number for a web hosting service.
What makes them so special to have amassed such large numbers in terms of customers AND employees? We’re about to find out.
Pros Of One.com
Load times that are competitive, the customer support that’s above par and attractive pricings. These are some of the positives that have earned One.com their massive clientele.
Let’s take a deep dive into all these aspects.
1. Load Times Above Average:- Just A Tad
One.com delivered an average and consistent load time of 666ms over a period of eight months.
Let’s take a look at the statistics:
- January 2018 average speed: 618ms
- February 2018 average speed: 648ms
- March 2018 average speed: 815ms
- April 2018 average speed: 678ms
- May 2018 average speed: 695ms
- June 2018 average speed: 704ms
- July 2018 average speed: 582ms
- August 2018 average speed: 591ms
2. Not The Fastest Customer Support But Pretty Good Still
While One.com’s email support has a long window (24 hours) for answering pending queries, their live chat is operation all year long, only in English though. Their live chat is only operational during local business hours for other languages such as Danish/Norwegian, Dutch, French, German and Swedish.
However, the live chat is said to be quite good, with a customer service representative connecting almost immediately when the ticket was issued, so that’s a plus.
3. Unlimited Email Accounts
When signing up for a web hosting service, the company may sometimes trick you into paying some sort of hidden fee/fees. It could be something along the lines of:
- A low rate on the website, but only if you prepay a minimum of three years in advance.
- A low rate on the website, that doubles or triples after the initial year.
- ‘Free extras’ like a domain name that are thrown in the first year, only to cost you in years two, three, etc.
Fortunately, One.com doesn’t do this sort of trickery and instead gives you free email accounts, even on their most basic plans.
4. An Inclusion Of An SSL Certificate
An SSL Certificate is basically a guarantee that whatever website you enter into is safe. What’s being kept safe? Sensitive information, for example, your credit card information, your home address, etc.
An SSL Certificate was usually used by E-Commerce websites since online credit card transactions would talk place daily, so SSL Certificates were applied to those websites as a security measure against cyberattacks that may take sensitive customer information.
One.com comes equipped with an SSL Certificate even for the basic plans, so rest assured, your details will not fall into the wrong hands.
5. Website Builder And WordPress
If you’re someone who’s not experienced in building websites, obviously you would need to recruit several people just to make that happen, such as a web designer, a web developer, you get the idea. It ain’t gonna be cheap.
Website Builders, for example, Wix, can help any layman build a website from scratch for only a few bucks a month. Thing is, you will have to use the company’s hosting itself so you would be somewhat limited in terms of setting up the look of your website.
Not to mention, if you want to move your website to a custom WordPress site after getting a hang of things, you can’t. You’re stuck with them.
And that’s where One.com comes in large. One.com has their own website builder for each of their plans, with a connection to WordPress as well, so if you want to start small and create a website with the builder and then move on to something a bit more complicated, the option is open to you.
Cons Of One.com
For any situation, there’s two sides of a coin. A black and a white. A pro and a con. Let’s view some of the cons for One.com, shall we?
1. A Horrific Uptime of 99.70%
Considering the fact that the industry average for uptime is 99.94%, this is pretty bad. 99.70 basically means that there was two hours of downtime for each month, and when stretched even further to a full year, that’s two days of uptime lost.
Here’s how One.com’s uptime has been over the course of eight months:
- January 2018 average uptime: 99.94%
- February 2018 average uptime: 99.80%
- March 2018 average uptime: 97.58%
- April 2018 average uptime: 99.61%
- May 2018 average uptime: 99.75%
- June 2018 average uptime: 99.06%
- July 2018 average uptime: 99.92%
- August 2018 average uptime: 99.96%
Honestly, this is pretty bad for a web hosting service. Up your game One.com, and soon.
2. The Word ‘Backups’? Not In Their Dictionary
Let’s say you have an internal server error due to some of your plugins misbehaving and conflicting with each other. This could be because the plugins are outdated, hence why the site would not be up and running.
Basically, if you don’t know your FTP, you’re pretty much in the dirt on this. For One.com to not offer something as basic and important as this, that’s a big negative.

One.com: Is It Number One In Our Books?
They were doing so well.
A great customer support team, fast load speeds, and let’s not forget unlimited email accounts, the website builder and the SSL Certificate.
This is around where it started to go downhill.
Backups were non-existent for the lower tier plans. And the absolutely dreadful uptime is the real killer here. Sorry One.com but you’re not making the cut this time around.
