Bluehost

Bluehost is user friendly, it’s that simple and easy to be use.

What’s The Story?

Bluehost is a company based in Utah and was founded by these 2 guys, Matt Heaton and Danny Ashworth. They are currently holding 750 employees to ensure and provide the best service for their customers. It is one of the most used and most popular shared hosting services as they are currently responsible for hosting more than 2 million websites all over the globe.

While that may seem convincing, there is something off regarding most of Bluehost reviews.

They offer excellent recommendations for the service without consuming any objective data or metrics (load time and uptime) into consideration.

Or do they??

So what's so special about Bluehost?

This review is constructed from actual data and statistics collected from more than 3 years of experimenting Bluehost’s cheapest ‘shared’ plan.

From our experience using Bluehost as our web host, we find that their uptime is very great. Their uptime averaging at 99.99% and we only experienced 5 breakdown, that is very impressive. Not many company able to maintain that level of service quality.

Their page load speed 5th fastest in the whole industry (not so blue now are you?) which is a major improvement. A few years back, their page load speed weren’t this fast or good.

Another good thing with Bluehost is that they are users friendly, it is so simple even your grandmother can use Bluehost (no, it’s true!) it’s that simple and easy to be use. Oh, their customer support is great as well, they’ll help you troubleshoot in no time.

Pros of Bluehost

I am providing absolute truth and an unbiased opinion as i rely and trust heavily on data and statistics. With these, you can determine the quality of a web host yourself as well. I am also using Brad Smith’s review of the company as reference so that it gives a better idea and more insight for you to consider.

Here are a couple of ‘Pros’ you should know if you are planning to use Bluehost’s service. (according to the statistics.)

1. Solid Uptime of >99.99% (#1)

With the record of 709ms of page load time over 8 months and 23% faster than the average industry of 890ms, DreamHost never let us down.

When the service went into an overhaul on a huge scale, it has improved it’s uptime so drastically that it is hard to believe that it’s near perfect.

They only experienced 5 power breakdown’s for the last 10 months, the uptime is incredibly well over the industry’s standard which is 99.94% and as a result, the downtime faced by the company is only for a short period of time.

However, they did state that their uptimes were abused in August of 2017 that were caused by DDoS attacks directed at their servers and as a result, the numbers have boomed uphill.

Overall, it’s the best uptime ever since:

  • December 2017 average uptime:100%
  • January 2018 average uptime:99:99%
  • February 2018 average uptime:100%
  • March 2018 average uptime:100%
  • April 2018 average uptime:100%
  • May 2018 average uptime:99.99%
  • June 2018 average uptime:100%
  • July 2018 average uptime:100%
  • August 2018 average uptime:100%
  • September 2018 average uptime:100%
2. Rapid page loading – 424ms (5th Fastest)

In the early 2016 since other companies had reviewed it, the speed was not satisfying so to speak.

The average speed was more than 1,500ms so they were too slow to make it on their top 10 list so instead, they landed in the top 20 list.

However, Bluehost has upped their game and improved the load times by 300%, in summer of 2017 which is a lot.

This is because they decided to improve their customer service so the result was they ended up investing for the company’s ‘BlueRock’ server park”

Here are the results over the last 10 months.

Last 10 month average load times:

  • December 2017 average uptime:399ms
  • January 2018 average uptime:415ms
  • February 2018 average uptime:463ms
  • March 2018 average uptime:429ms
  • April 2018 average uptime:409ms
  • May 2018 average uptime:406ms
  • June 2018 average uptime:467ms
  • July 2018 average uptime:418ms
  • August 2018 average uptime:414ms
  • September 2018 average uptime:421ms

That is actually good and as a result, Bluehost Hosting ranks 5th in speed.

3.Low Introductory Pricing ($2.75/mo)

Not only has Bluehost provide excellent uptimes and load times from 2017, they also offer a stellar price range for their service, marking them one of the cheapest web hosts on the market.

Even though they are a bit hefty on pricing when compared to the other’s, it’s upgraded servers and the lowered price option is an incredible choice, even for people who are meticulous about it.

4. Good Security Options

Searching for a good web host that offers excellent security protocols is now more important than ever after a countless cyber assault and major data breaches that have recently surrounded the marketplace and industry.

Fortunately, Bluehost provides excellent tools to battle and prevent most of the common attacks and risks.

Take this, for example, you can stop spam tools such as SpamAssassin, Spam Experts, and Spam Hammer. Cloudflare support is also provided so that it helps prevent annoying DDoS attacks that can bring down a site by dispatching an overwhelming amount of “fake” traffic from different sources.

All in all, Bluehost offers a tremendous amount of security options for you to use so rest assured, your servers are secured.

5. A Handful of Integrations, Apps and eCommerce Features.

Aside from the crowded security features that were mentioned above, Bluehost also comes prepared with a dashboard filled with applications. This allows you to link other services such as Google Apps, and the previously mentioned, CloudFlare directly in the cPanel.

Should you link Google Apps into the Bluehost platform, you’ll be able to transfer all of the extra’s from Google to your business right from the backbone of your hosting account.

Moreover, customers can set up an online store consistently with a never-ending number of shopping cart options. This is possible because due to the fact that Bluehost has thoroughly simplified it’s eCommerce features. Just
Click “install” and you are ready to go.

6. ‘Official’ WordPress.org Recommended Host

With the recently updated hosting page, WordPress has listed their 3 best hosting providers on their official site and those are SiteGround, DreamHost and yes you got that right, Bluehost.

7.Simple To Use

Bluehost is very user-friendly especially if you are just starting to use it.

The cPanel allows users to navigate and browse through swiftly. You just have to click the icons and voila, you are ready to go.

The simple interface makes it possible for users to browse through their emails and websites in one place.

You can also customize the layout yourself if you have a different preference in terms of layout.

8. A month Duration of Free Trial and Money Back Guarantee

If you are worried about the pricing, rest assured that Bluehost gives you the chance to try out their service for 30 days and a money back guarantee.

Although it isn’t as long as their competitors, 30 days is actually a good amount of duration for you to decide if Bluehost is right for you or not.

But, it is also worth considering that terms do apply if you want to claim your refund.

  • The money back guarantee does not apply to add-on products like domains.
  • The company will deduct $15.99 from the total number of your refund as a fee for the domain. (That’s 65.70 in Malaysian Ringgit). That is if you decide to cancel within 30 days and your plan happens to include a free domain. The company states that this is to ‘cover their costs’ while keeping your domain name so that it is not lost. Also worth noting that newly registered domains cannot be transferred until a 60-day registration has passed.

Cons of Bluehost
1. Customer support is rapid but should be more knowledgeable.

While it’s customer support has improved drastically in terms of speed, they are falling behind in its contemporaries.

Another bonus is that Bluehost’s Youtube Channel has tons of helpful guides for you to learn so if you don’t mind getting dirty and doing it yourself, you could solve 90% of your upcoming problems.

However, recent reviews show that customer support is terrible. Some say that they are rude and baiting. It is stated they ask multiple questions so that they try to manipulate you and others have also lost a huge amount of money when using customer service. Yikes!

2. The $2.75 /mo Price Only Comes with 36 Month plan (Although $4.95/mo is still cheap).

Yes, Bluehost is cheap. But, just how cheap? This is where it depends.

The incredibly low introductory rate of only RM11.30 a month comes with a few catches. It demands a three-year commitment.

You need to pay RM20.33 if you want only 12 months’ worth of service.

So, this leaves HostGator Cloud as the only company that allows hosting periods for as short as 1-3 months.

I would just go for the RM20.44 a month because 3-year commitment is too much for me, especially if you have trust issues with Bluehost. You can also reconsider switching if you want a cheaper option, so there’s a lot of good options for you to choose and think about.

3. Site Migrations Requires to Cash Out

There is this fee called ‘migration fee’ and this requires you to chunk out a hefty price of RM616.16) to do something that others offer it for free.

Another ‘extra fee’ is that it costs you $79.99 (RM328.60) if you want a simple introductory guide of their services.

This is something others would give out as a complimentary service because technically, you are enrolling for their service in the long term.

Yes and the reason for that is because of its:

  • Fast
